A Little History...
We got our start like many of our investors do. As entrepreneurs,
we wanted to "park" our profits in passive investments while we continued growing our businesses and felt
that the natural fit for us would be real estate, specifically multi-family real estate.
Our first few investments were passive hands off investments meaning that we invested the capital in the deals
and got cashflow and depreciation. As passive investors, we got all the benefits of real estate ownership without
any of the hassle.
We then moved onto actively putting together our own deals with a small group of investors we'd worked with before
and offered the same benefits we received as passive investors to our own investors while we took on the role
of active investors by locating the right markets, finding the deals, funding them, qualifying for financing,
managing the management company, and looking out for the interests of our passive investors.
In 2008, we formalized Maxa Investments, LLC, the fourth business we've successfully launched together.
Our philosophy
Our philosophy is simple:
Find properties that cashflow at purchase yet still have multiple opportunities to increase value located in markets we feel are growing.
Match up our properties with investors looking to diversify their active or retirement portfolios with real estate and get all the benefits of ownership without the hassle.
Takeover, manage, and 5-7 years later, sell each property at a profit based on the increased Net Operating Income of the property.
Repeat.
About the Co-Founders
Entrepreneur, market expert, industry leader and investor, Jeremy B.
Shapiro has built 7 profitable businesses from scratch starting in 1996
and began his foray into real estate in 1999. Since then, he has
launched a multi-million dollar real estate company helping investors
find out about and purchase niche properties and, working with his
business partner, Sheila Farragher-Gemma, he has acquired over
over 800 rental units in 4 states. Jeremy has been called upon
by the media for his expert advice on the housing market around the
country and has been featured on New England Cable News, National Public
Radio, the Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, NBC, PBS, and more.
Jeremy's focus is on building proven business systems, overseeing the
overall organization, and helping to drive the direction of the company.
A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Sheila Farragher-Gemma moved to the
states in 1989 to pursue a corporate position. Her entrepreneurial nature
soon took over and she founded and profitably sold several businesses
before settling into the world of real estate where she and her business
partner Jeremy Shapiro launched a multi-million dollar company helping
investors find out about and purchase niche properties in addition to
acquiring multi-family investment properties in North American and
European emerging markets. As one of the most recognized authorities on
the foreclosure market, Sheila has routinely counseled professionals on
the ins-and-outs of the foreclosure process and how to succeed in real
estate. Her role as an industry expert has been highlighted by her
appearances on CBS Nightly News, FOX 25, New England Cable News, WGBH TV
and WBUR radio. Sheila brings her years of marketing experience and her
established network of private investors to the team.
